Grant A. Winter

Focus

Mr. Winter is a law clerk who assists senior attorneys in litigation arising from the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA).

Professional History

Mr. Winter was hired by Ellis Coleman Poirier LaVoie & Steinheimer in 2007. He holds a juris doctor degree and is clerking for the firm pending his admission to the California State Bar.

In the summer of 2006, Mr. Winter was a regional field manager for the California Grassroots Mobilization, a vendor of voter registration for the Republican Party. Based in Placer County, he hired and supervised a staff that ranged from 10 to 20 to coordinate voter registration drives, including a unique drive for absentee voters.

Prior to that, he was employed by the Business and Community Development Clinic in Sacramento, where as a certified law student he consulted prospective business owners on matters of business entity creation, business development and intellectual property.

In the summer of 2004, Mr. Winter was assistant to the president of the Blue Chip Insurance Agency, a position entailed involvement with marketing, billing and data management.

Education

Mr. Winter received his bachelor’s degree with a double major in English and political science from Colgate University in 2004. He earned his law degree from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, in 2007. In 2005, he attended the Summer Law Institute, Kenneth Wang School of Law, in Suzhou, China. At McGeorge, Mr. Winter was an active member of the Junior Barristers Club. 

Personal

Mr. Winter is a foster caretaker for Northern California Beagle Rescue, a program in which volunteers care for homeless dogs and find them permanent homes. His hobbies include river kayaking and Celtic knot tying.  He also makes 3-d topographic maps.
